DIRECTV Everywhere goes outside the home, expands channel lineup
DIRECTV on Thursday began allowing subscribers to view more than 30 networks on mobile devices outside of the home in an expansion of its DIRECTV Everywhere application that also includes support for live and on-demand video via its Android app. The satellite provider will extend its in-home streaming service for laptops, smartphones and tablets to about 100 cable networks, and it has added more content to its online video library, bringing to total to about 19,000 titles. DISH’s Hopper DVR adds HDMI-CEC upgrade
The Hopper DVR from DISH Network now includes an HDMI-CEC function, which the company claims is designed to make it easier for Hopper users to switch back to watching live television. The Hopper’s “Denver” release also includes an improved display of on-demand programming with a “Free for Kids” shelf of age-appropriate content. Home Media Magazine (11/22)

Integrators wrestle with 4K sales as prices drop
Consumer prices for 4K Ultra HD televisions have begun to drop fast, leaving integrators to wonder if they risk their customers’ ire if they’re selling sets at an inflated price. Slingbox adds Roku support to allow for second set-top box
EchoStar’s Sling Media has brought Roku’s streaming video players on board, giving Slingbox owners access to their live and recorded programs via Roku players on their iOS and Android devices. A software update will also turn iPhones and iPads into remote controls. PC Magazine (11/18)

Satellite Broadband Participates in NARUC Conference
Satellite broadband providers Hughes Network Systems (a wholly owned subsidiary of EchoStar) and ViaSat were active participants at the recent 125th National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) that took place this week. Hughes and ViaSat provided demonstrations of their satellite broadband voice and data services and participated on a NARUC panel (represented by Jennifer Manner, vice president of regulatory affairs at EchoStar).
