Review: ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ is ‘Scandal’ Meets Law School Meets Insanity

How to Get Away with Murder premieres Thursday, September 25that 10/9c on ABC.

Shonda Rhimes owns ABC right now. Many may choose to not believe this fact, but if one’s asking who has the most power at the alphabet network right now, it’s Rhimes. With two series currently on the air, both of which have multiple Emmy wins and nominations under their belts, Rhimes is at a point in her career where she can get just about anything she wants made at ABC. Because of this, it’s no surprise a series as outlandishly insane as How to Get Away with Murdergot greenlit, and even if she didn’t create the show, the new legal drama boasts the hallmarks of modern day Rhimes, and pretty much all for the better.

How to Get Away with Murder follows a group of students at Philadelphia University who have been granted the unfortunate privilege of being assigned to the class of no nonsense professor, Annalise Keating. Viewing her class as the students’ only chance to learn how to apply the study of law in a practical sense, Keating takes her pupils on a journey through her most recent case to find out who she’ll hire for her law firm in the coming weeks. However, as we learn from a pilot that jumps forward and reverse through the first three months of the students’ semester, How to Get Away with Murder will take us through the events that led to one horrific night that the gang of young adults will never forget.
